Pinna in Italian means “fin”. We designed its plywood backrest to be the more recognizable element of the product like a big whale fin coming out from the flat sea. It reminds us certain Japanese paintings.

At the same time that element has also a structural function. It makes the chair very strong without too many wooden pins.
The product is designed around it, starting from it and in some way it is something apart from the whole. Something alien, just put on the structure in order to mark it much more. That’s why we designed also the upholstered backrest version.
