Can you tell us about the Hotel Gloriette located on the Renon Plateau?
You can arrive on the Renon Plateau directly from Bolzano with the cable car. The hotel is a mini boutique hotel and the family that runs it works in the field of gastronomy. We didn’t have much building space, so after a series of evaluations we decided to put the pool on the ground but not on the roof.
The Renon Plateau is a place where Bolzano inhabitants have been coming since the nineteenth century to find some fresh air compared to Bolzano. Here there are many Viennese or Neo-classical secession houses. The choice to design the arcades on the façade was made to find a link with history and from here we started to find a relationship with the present. In fact, to do this we have to set volumes on all the facades and the rooftop pool.
The pool is a cylinder set in the hotel volume. The materials, the shape and its location must evoke a strong sense of contemporaneity that relates to historicity.
On the top floor in the attic there is a mini wellness area with a sauna which leads to the pool.
