Personally I find self-production hard.

I think the main factor that determines whenever a project is complete is the deadline.

I love modeling in 3D softwares.

Fernando Maldonado is a young designer who lives in Guatemala City. His projects arise from concepts and ideas, the shape is only a consequence of these. Sometimes his objects are concise and linear, others exactly the opposite.
Fernando loves 3D modeling and his attention to the representation of the object is very accurate and studied.

Where did you study?

I’m working on my thesis at the Rafael Landívar University

Where do you live?

I’m from Guatemala City

Have you had masters?

No

Are there any authors that you see or consider as mentors?

Diego Olivero, I have been working with him for almost 2 years now. Diego had taught me how the design world actually works and that design can have a positive social impact.

Where do you start when you have a new project?

I constantly come up with random ideas of projects, So I make sure to always write them down on a journal. So whenever a have time for a personal project I can take one idea of my journal.

What do you think about self-production?

Personally I find self-production hard. I have tried to materialize projects by myself but they never came out as I intended. But, you can always collaborate with people who specialize in different areas, which is really fun to do and I really enjoy it.

Your projects are always generated by interesting ideas but I think their representation is equally important to you. Could my interpretation be correct?

Yes, it is correct. Actually my favorite part of a project is the moment when I have to present it or show it online. I really enjoy seeing the reactions of people and how they view my designs. You never know how they will react and I enjoy that.

When do you understand that your project is completed?

In design school, they teach you that a project is never finished. There is always something to improve. I think the main factor that determines whenever a project is complete is the deadline.

What would you like to draw?

I’m not that good at sketching, but I love modeling in 3D softwares. I’m looking forward to try modeling and sketching in VR.

my favorite part of a project is the moment when I have to present it or show it online.
