Could you tell us about your “Der Wanderer” project?

It is a photographic project that kept me busy from 2007 to 2010, a journey along the entire Alpine arc, to document its sublime grandeur and violent contradictions. A place where nature is often still the absolute protagonist, with its solemnity and its elegance, but also where it often risks succumbing to human impetuosity, limiting itself to “act as a frame”. I decided to photograph the majesty of the contemporary alpine landscape, its immanence and its transcendence, its absolutes and its contingencies, trying however to harmonise with the intervention and the presence of modernisation.

Elements that can be defined as “disturbing”, of course, but which now appear so frequently in the original natural landscape as to become, in some way, an integral part, at times acquiring a certain beauty. The contemporary traveller thus seems forced to limit him- or herself to being subjected to nature and its modifications, seeing one’s own self and one’s own questions reflected within it. And it is precisely this human figure, exhibited in every photograph, as real proof and witness to the present, as a unit of measurement of the world today. That human figure in the photos is still me. I have always built my work around the method of knowledge through direct experience, and as I write this, it is precisely this figure that serves as real and testimonial proof of the present as a unit of measurement of the world, as witness to the terrains: I am here now!
