Andrea Lupi, the art director of Antonio Lupi, tells us about the Introvert and Controversial projects developed with Paolo Ulian. The basic idea is to transform the end user into a sort of sculptor who molds his own objects at will.
Paolo Ulian realize Controverso
Can you talk about the Controversial and Introvert projects carried out together with Paolo Ulian?
The basic concept is that the form is inside the form and in order to create something new it must be destroyed. This item is a very nice sink, with a cylindrical marble shape. The feature that makes it unique is the fact that its various layers must be hammered so as to obtain its final shape.
Controverso di Paolo Ulian per Antonio Lupi
Essentially, whoever buys Controverso has to hit it with a hammer?
Yes and by doing so every buyer becomes a sculptor.
Many people feel ashamed or fearful at the idea of having to hit a perfect item with a hammer. But this is the beauty of it which lies within the stress of having to hit a newly bought product. The truth is that often we are asked to carry out the carving which is by far the most beautiful part. Even if it looks like a layered cylinder, it is made utilising hidden procedures that allow you to alter the shape without compromising its quality and use in any ways.
